Great cairn of Barnenez

Grand cairn de Barnenez

Piles of stones - Empilement de pierres

The cairn consists of piles of stones covering the hollow funerary chambers. Thousands of years had covered it with soil and it was only noticed as a landscape feature until the 19th century, when its funerary nature was attested.
The dolerite stones of the first cairn were taken nearby, but the clear granite of the second cairn can’t be found closer than 2 km!
