In the basement of the temple, an exhibition explains the project, how Antoni Gaudì worked with scale models, and shows drawings and models of the finished building. A 5 m high scale model was built by Gaudì to check its design and structure.
Au sous-sol du temple, une exposition explique le projet, comment Antoni Gaudì travaillait avec des maquettes, et montre des dessins et des maquettes du bâtiment terminé. Une maquette de 5 m de haut de la nef fut construite par Gaudì pour vérifier son apparence et sa structure.
A model made of wire and small weight bags demonstrates how the weight is distributed along the catenary shapes of the columns and towers. The bags are suspended and naturally shape the wires to distribute their weight. A mirror reverses this to show the shape of the building.
Une maquette de fil et de petits sac de poids montre comment la charge est distribuée le long des formes caténaires des colonnes et des tours. Les sacs sont suspendus et déforment naturellement les fils pour répartir leur poids. Un miroir inverse l’image pour montrer la forme du bâtiment.
