Les Sables-d’Olonne
After encountering a sailboat with a blue spinnaker matching the sky’s colour, we arrive in front of Les Sables-d’Olonne. Lola’s wood shines in the sun, with a crowded beach and a line of buildings in the background. I wouldn’t gladly swap places with someone on the beach!
Après avoir croisé un voilier au spinnaker bleu assorti à la couleur du ciel, nous arrivons devant Les-Sables-d’Olonne. Le bois de Lola brille au soleil, avec une plage bondée et une ligne de bâtiments en arrière-plan. Je n’échangerais pas ma place avec quelqu’un sur la plage pour une vache !
The jetty of Les Sables-d’Olonne fishing harbour starts with a lantern, of course, then goes along the Saint-Nicolas priory.
La jetée du port de pêche des Sables-d’Olonne commence bien sûr avec un feu, puis passe le long du prieuré Saint-Nicolas.
The Chaume lighthouse is situated on top of the tower of what was previously the Arundel castle. This lighthouse is now only used as a harbour lantern, buildings around it are blocking the view from the sea. Another lighthouse, the Armandèche, has been buit closer to shore.
Le phare de la Chaume est situé en haut de la tour de ce qui était le château d’Arundel. Désormais le phare ne sert que de feu de port, les bâtiments alentour bloquant la vue de la mer. Un autre phare, l’Armandèche, a été construit plus près du rivage.
We moored close to the fishing harbour. Big concrete buildings of the fishing coop (called “L’entente cordiale”) show that it must have been busy at some point. I guess the fishing activity has declined, as a small marina has been added to this part of the harbour.
Nous nous sommes amarrés près du port de pêche. Les grands bâtiments en béton de la coopérative de pêche (nommée “L’entente cordiale”) témoignent d’une grosse activité à une période. Je suppose que celle-ci a décliné puisqu’un petit port de plaisance a été ajouté à cette partie du port.
