Arrival in the Scilly islands

Arrivée aux îles Scilly

Wolf rock lighthouse - Phare de Wolf rock

The Scilly are situated off the southwestern point of Cornwall. After leaving Aber Wrac’h, apart from seing a hint of Land’s End in the haze, Wolf rock lighthouse is the first landmark we see after crossing the Channel. The sea was quite rough and we got help from the engine against the wind, I got a little seasick at the end of the 24 hours crossing.

As we get closer to the Scilly islands, gannets fly and dive around us. Above is a young one, its colours still greyish. Under are two adults, with clear cut black and white plumage.

We spend the first night moored northwest of St Martin’s island, then go north around Round island and its lighthouse, towards the sound between Tresco and Bryher.
